Grounding

Grounding: Achieving balance and tranquility through grounding
What is grounding?
Grounding – also known as earthing – restores the connection between your body and the Earth's natural energy, helping you reduce stress and find inner balance. Our bodies are naturally designed to be in contact with the Earth. However, our modern lifestyle increasingly distances us from this essential connection.
One reason for this is our footwear: sports shoes, flip-flops, or other shoes with rubber soles insulate us from the earth. Many surfaces we walk on—such as asphalt or floors made from petroleum derivatives—also prevent direct contact. As a result, we spend most of our daily lives disconnected from nature without consciously realizing it. Grounding invites us to re-establish this connection—with small steps that can easily be integrated into everyday life.
Why is grounding important for body and mind?
You may never have thought about it, but our bodies are electromagnetic systems. Every single one of our cells uses electrical impulses to send signals, move muscles, and regulate the nervous system. Without these intricate electrical processes, we couldn't function. The Earth itself possesses a natural electromagnetic field, with which we can resonate through direct contact—a principle that makes grounding so effective.
At the same time, we are exposed to many artificially generated electromagnetic fields (EMFs) today, which can potentially have a detrimental effect on our bodies. Grounding can help stabilize the body and create a natural balance. We will report on the effects of EMFs in more detail in a later article – so if you are interested in the topic, please stay tuned.
Grounding in practice: Here's how it works
Grounding involves establishing direct contact with the earth by standing, sitting, or even lying down barefoot on grass, sand, or soil. This conscious connection with nature can help reduce stress, calm the nervous system, and improve overall well-being.
Grounding by the sea: The power of water, sand and air
The sea, with its salty water, fine sand, and refreshing breeze, is a particularly ideal place to intensify this practice. The natural environment of the beach enhances the relaxing and healing effects of grounding by further calming the senses and clearing the mind.
Scientific perspective
Scientific studies suggest that grounding has anti-inflammatory effects and can positively influence sleep and regeneration. Direct contact with the earth allows the body to electrically balance itself, which can help reduce internal tension and promote greater equilibrium.
Robert O. Becker, a pioneer of bioelectrical medicine, emphasized:
" The electrical activity of our body is fundamental to our health. The connection to the earth plays a vital role in this, as it supports the natural energy flow of our organism."
His research shows that our bodies are influenced by natural electrical fields and that grounding can help restore this natural balance. The body absorbs electrons from the earth, which act like natural antioxidants. They neutralize free radicals in the body and can thus reduce inflammatory processes.

Conclusion: Small steps, big impact
Consciously integrate grounding into your everyday life:
- Start your morning with a short walk on dewy grass. The feeling of wet grass between your toes can intensify your grounding. Even a few minutes a day can make a noticeable difference and leave you feeling more grounded.
- Use your lunch break to explore your natural surroundings barefoot, breathe deeply, and feel how you gain more calm and stability with each breath. You'll be surprised how soothing and revitalizing this simple practice can be.
- After work, take a moment to walk barefoot on the beach for a few minutes. The feeling of warm sand under your feet or the gentle immersion in the salty water can create a particularly deep connection with nature and reduce oxidative stress.
